TAD 9

Hey Ya'll. Too many hours and not enough time.  I started work at 7:15am and finished at 9:02pm. Makes for a very long day. Well this is my TAD 9. I of course relied on steampunk again. I just love it and I took pictures of ones I sold and want to make over again. There is no way they will be exact but similar. I have never burned so many pieces of work.  I think it is because I'm using 2 different brands of polymer clay, Kato and Fimo. The temperatures are different and the times are different as well. The other 2 pieces are a test. I wanted to see what the jade looks like antiqued. My husband cooked a wonderful dinner for me tonight. The man does not eat onions. He made chicken breasts using durkee onions and 2 tbs of flour. He crushed it up and breaded it using this mixture. Oh my goodness! It was very good. He made wild rice and gravy to go along with it. I must say I am terribly spoiled and love him so very much. He actually liked it too!

TAD 8

I have been crazy busy today. I made my TAD at 9:00. The pictures show the piece without resin. I poured a 2 part resin on 2 pieces at 10:00pm. I tried taking pictures with the resin and of course it is so reflective all you see are the lights. the other picture is the front of my shirt I wore on Super bowl day that my mother sent me from Louisiana for good luck. I do believe it worked. Thanks mom, I love you

This morning I went to Nebraska Furniture Mart and bought a jewelry armoire with part of the money I made at the sale yesterday. I had to assemble the little legs and screw the hinges for the top piece. I loaded it up. I just love it and have so much more room in my dressing room now that everything is off my vanity. I made my TAD 7 during half time. I am from Louisiana so of course I have to cheer on the Saints though Patton Manning is from New Orleans. I made a flore de les which means flower lily. It is a symbol that Cajuns know very well and the New Orleans Saints adorn their jerseys with. I antiqued it during commercials and then  baked it again. Apparently too long and burned it. That's okay as I will perfect it when I make it over about 20 times. I so very proud of the Saints! The Flore de les has been seen in Kings armors, French monarchic rule, such as Louisiana.  The design can be found in many places long before heraldic times, as far back as Mesopotamia. It is essentially a stylized flower, and served as a decorative element and became associated over time with royalty, especially in the High Middle Ages. As a heraldic charge, it dates from the 12th c. It is first adopted as a semis on a field by the French king Philippe II (1180-1214) with certainty, perhaps already by his father Louis VII (1137-80). At a minimum, the arms "azure, a semis of fleur-de-lis or" are associated with French kings from 1200. The fleur-de-lys, as emblem (as opposed to heraldic charge) appears on coins and seals from the 10th c. at least. Typically, it forms the end of a scepter, or decorates the rim of a crown, or is held, over-sized, by the king along with a scepter. So there is, by the 11th-12th c., a strong association with royal sovereignty. In fact, coins of the Emperor Frederic I show him holding such a scepter. Moreover, supposing that it was already called a fleur-de-lys at the time, the lilly flower had strong religious connotations, especially with the Virgin Mary, and later (in the 14th c.) with the Trinity.  I love the flore de les shape, I always have. This is the first time I have tried making it. Geaux Saints….

TAD 6

What a day! I sold my jewelry and yes some steampunk too. This was actually a piece I made yesterday because I was not sure I would have time to make anything besides "money" today. I think I can call that TAD…. Every piece that I started Since the 1st was sold at the show that I posted on TAD! Very excited! People that bought the steampunk really loved the stories behind the piece. I had one guy chase me down to find out what the story to his piece was. I let him know that was the first piece I made. I unscrewed it from the ground and out came the steam which made the rest of the steampunkers. He was happy to see that he bought the one that started it all. Very tired now. I was so happy to see friends and guilders that came to the show. That always makes you feel good. Now to work. Three hours should do it. Can't wait for the Super Bowl tomorrow. Geaux Saints!!!

TAD 5

TAD 4 found there were more steam punker's that felt the same way. TAD 5 wears her heart on her sleeve. She knows it is a sign of weakness and learns each day from others which makes her stronger.
I wore red today in honor of National Women's Heart Disease Awareness. Getting ready for Cupid's Gems Jewelry Show. I hope to be "making" money tomorrow! Hubby just made me an incredible meal. Roast Pork in Apricot sauce with potatoes and corn...19 years in May. I think I will keep him.

TAD 4

This heart has been broken and it is trying to mend itself by tightening belts around it. In time the wounds will heal from friendships that will never be again. I think it looks great from the front or the back. 4 inches in length. The little "X" looking thing on the back is my signature cane. 2 K's back to back. Still cleaning my work area and enjoying the steam punk. Not sure this can be considered steam punk. I am not using gears so much. Maybe a form of steam punk or my own spin on it. Today I found a scrapbook store less than a mile from my house that I had no idea even existed. She had gear parts and such. I cannot believe this place has been open for 2 years and I am just now discovering it. So happy I found it. Just bought her out of all the gears/extra watch parts! Tonight I have a VFW Auxiliary meeting. I hope we are done by 8:00pm so I can work on my next TAD.

TAD Day 3

Okay, here we go again with the steam punk. I am actually one day behind so this is what I made last night and I can't get around to posting it until the next day. I am doing well with keeping my area clean. At the end of this craziness I make sure and put everything in its place. I have an appointment with tax man this Friday and I have been setting up for my jewelry sale on 2-6-10. I have everything set up as I want it on the table and trying to figure out where Debster is going to be putting her jewelry on this table. I need to make room for her. Pretty slow day for me as I had 2 sick clients and one no show. Now it is 8:00pm and I am off up the stairs to make my TAD....

2nd day

Okay this took way too long to just get the picture and the pics do not do the piece justice. Polymer clay steam punk again. I tell you I am so hooked on this technique. This one is made out of silver mica clay and antiqued with black & blue acrylic paint. I think it took as much time to take this dang picture than it did making it. I had a crazy day as usual at work. I teach a class on Tuesday and this month have the advanced class so it is much smaller and so much nicer. I was able to breathe. Ahhhh. Called the water company on our back door neighbors as their water has been running for at least a week. We didn't realize that was the problem until the ice started melting and we could hear the water running. Not a good way to come back from a vacation...

Steam punk jewelry inspired by Christi Friesen. Since we are only to use 30 minutes on our creativity I have completed this piece before curing it in 30 minutes. However I do antique it after 30 minutes in the oven and then back in for 10 minutes to set the paint. I love this new stuff that's for sure and want to make much more.
